Tirupur: A man was booked under Goondas act for his involvement in various offences including robbery.
On November 25, Kumaragurubaran from Coimbatore boarded the Mangalore Express train from Tirupur to Podanur. While the train was nearing Podanur, an unidentified man barged into his compartment and threatened him at knife point for money.
Later, the railway police led by Inspector Dhanalakshmi arrested the man. Upon inquiry, the accused was identified as Divakar from Lalgudi, Trichy. It was also found that he was involved in 10 other cases under various jurisdictions.
Upon orders from C. Sylendra Babu, Director General of Police of the Railways (GRP), Tamil Nadu, Vanitha IPS, IG Railways, P. Maheshwaran, Superintendent of Police, Inspector Dhanalakshmi of Podanur Police station investigated the crime and recommended to the Coimbatore Police Commissioner to book the accused Divakar under Goondas act.
Upon approval from the City Commissioner, he was booked under Goondas act and imprisoned in Coimbatore Central jail.
