Centre of Excellence for Smart pumps inaugurated at Si'Tarc

Coimbatore: Coimbatore being a major hub for Pump Industry, research on new products and technology development in the industry has always been welcomed by industries in the region.


Coimbatore: Coimbatore being a major hub for Pump Industry, research on new products and technology development in the industry has always been welcomed by industries in the region. 



In one such initiative, to facilitate research and development, a 'Centre of Excellence for Smart Pumps' was inaugurated today at Scientific and Industrial Testing And Research Centre (Si'Tarc) in the city. 



Speaking at the event, A.R.Sihag, IAS, Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries said, "The BMDC technology behind the smart pump is a concerted effort of industries and academic institutions. Development of this technology has garnered more confidence to the industry to compete at a global level."

He added that the testing and research centres play a critical role in technology and product development, hence this Centre Of Excellence at Si'Tarc has the potential to become an important testing centre at national level.

K.V.Karthik, Chairman, Smart Pumps Project said, " Since 2017 Si'Tarc has been trying to develop this technology and this year in association with PSG College Of Technology, we have developed BLDC- Brushless DC for submersible pumps. This technology would take our pumps at par with International brands."

The Chairman of Smart Pumps Project also said that the Centre of Excellence has been created to promote reasearch in this field at a cost of Rs. 8.41 Crore. Out of which, Rs.6.71 Crore will be contributed by the government of India. "The remaining cost will be borne by the industry and this centre which can help produce technologically superior products", he noted.
