Coimbatore: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 37-year-old woman, after poisoning her four children, consumed poison to end her life. All five are undergoing critical treatment at Coimbatore Government hospital.
Govindaraj (40) and Amsaveni (37), from Dharmapuri district, live here at Thaneerpandal area along with their four children -- Soumya (16), Satyapriya (11), Manikandan (10) and Sabarinathan (7).
It is reported that Sathya Priya, the second daughter of the couple was suffering from a chronic lung ailment. Due to lack of funds to support her treatment, the family was under immense stress.
In this scenario, yesterday when Govindaraj went out for work, Amsaveni decided to commit suicide along with her children. She fed poison-laced food to her children and consumed the same.
As the the children questioned Amsaveni on why the food was tasting and smelling differently, Amsaveni broke down in tears and rushed the children to Government Hospital, here.
Presently, all five are undergoing treatment at the Government Hospital. The Peelamedu police have registered a case and are investigating.
