Chennai: After the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, passed the Rajya Sabha on late Wednesday, mixed responses mostly criticisms have been pouring in from opposition parties and Islamic organisations labelling the bill to be against the constitutional ethos of the nation.

In a strong-worded statement, Kamal Haasan, President of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) criticised the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019 as an absurd and undemocratic move by the Centre to make India a country for only one section of people.

"Young India would reject this separatism idea. Moreover, India is not primitive to execute such plans" he said through a press release.

The actor-turned politician opined that "We all of us certainly have a duty to rectify any error in the Constitution. To the contrary, attempting to lcorrect a good, error-free system is a betrayal of the people and democracy. Moreover, it is like peforming surgery on a healthy person"

He further questioned "Why are Tamils who are subjected to a methodic genocide and Muslims facing discrimination, be excluded from the bill?

"If it’s a genuinely benevolent bill and not a vote garnering exercise, then why won’t this CAB stop to pick up stranded Tamils and troubled Muslims of Srilanka?", probed Kamal.
