Coimbatore: The 12th 'Kovai Vizha', the annual event organised collectively by various organisations of Coimbatore in association with Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) took off to a grand start today.

The event was presided by Navy Commanding Officer, Ashok Rai and Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner, J. Sravan Kumar.
Speaking at the event CCMC Commissioner commended all organisation for hosting this Vizha. "Being here for the first time to celebrate Kovai Vizha, I request everyone to make this a World Class event. We should take Kovai Vizha, as an opportunity to sensitise and create more awareness among public about eradication of plastic and make coimbatore a plastic free city", said the Commissioner.

Speaking at the launch, Praveen Kumar, Chair Yi, Coimbatore said, "This event is not just about celebrating the spirit of Coimbatore but a culmination of various organisations and people from different walks of life. The event sets a platform for beginning greater and prospective things geared towards the development of the city."
The 10-day event starts with a musical concert on January 3, 2020 followed by a boat show on January 4-5 which is declared as the flagship event for this year. The boat show is organised with the help of INS Agrani, and the show would be conducted by Madras Royal Yacht Club.

A plethora of events to celebrate the spirit of Coimbatore and to showcase the talents of Coimbatoreans including an intercollegiate competition for students across Coimbatore called 'Coimbatore has talent', Art street, Coimbatore Marathon, Grand parade and Comedy fest is scheduled for this year Vizha, said the organisers.
Earlier, Supraja Venkat, Chair of Kovai Vizha welcomed the guests. Members of Yi, hoteliers association and other reputed organisations took part in the event.
