Coimbatore: Coimbatore Management Association (CMA) in association with CODISSIA conducted a special interaction on 'Defence Technology Corridor and the Impact On India's Defence Industrial Base" on Monday at PSG Institute of Management.
Group captain J.K.Sahu and his team from College of Defence Management, Secunderabad interacted with the members of CMA and CODISSIA regarding procurement and opportunities for MSMEs in defence corridor.
Delivering his special address, J.K.Sahu said, "Defence Procurement Procedure (DPP)-2016, which has come into effect from April 2016, focuses on institutionalising, streamlining and simplifying defence procurement procedure to give a boost to “Make in India” initiative of the Government of India. The initiative aims to promote indigenous design, development and manufacturing of defence equipment, platforms, systems and sub-systems."
He added that the key features of revised DPP, promoting ‘Make in India’ include a few important features - A new category of procurement ‘Buy Indian-IDDM (Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) has been introduced in Defence Procurement Procedure-2016 and the same has been accorded top most priority for procurement of capital equipment.
"Preference has been accorded to ‘Buy Indian’ and ‘Buy and Make Indian’ categories of capital acquisition over ‘Buy Global’ & ‘Buy & Make Global’ categories", he said.
Speaking at the event, R.Ramamurthy, President, CODISSIA stated, "The proposed defence corridor would bring in numerous opportunities to the MSME industries in Coimbatore which would open up opportunities for small and medium enterprises. The Defence Innovation hub at CODISSIA will serve as a nodal hub for the Defence corridor in Tamil Nadu connecting all the five centres - Chennai, Coimbatore, Salem, Hosur and Trichy."
He added that the innovation hub will introduce new products for defence forces and is expected to manufacture 75 products for defence sector.
Members of CMA, CODISSIA and students from PSG Institute of Management participated in the event.
