Coimbatore: Within a week after a gang axed and tried to smuggle a sandalwood tree from Singanallur, four such incidents have been recorded in Kovaipudhur here.
According to police, a 20-year-old sandalwood tree from a house belonging to a Suresh from X-Block in Kovaipudur, was cut and smuggled by unidentified men on Sunday night.
The miscreants had also cut three more trees in the neighbourhood and Kuniyamuthur police are currently on the lookout for the men.
They are investigating whether the same gang that was involved in Singanallur was responsible for the repeated incidents in Kovaipudur.
Notably, a CCTV footage from Neelikonampalayam, revealed a notorious gang that had axed a tree with weapons. There are also other such cases pending in the various police limits including RS Puram, Saibaba Colony, Singanallur and others in Coimbatore.
