Coimbatore: Appalled by the soaring onion prices and inaction by the government to regularise the prices, members of All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) staged a novel protest by wearing onion garlands here at Kattoor on Monday.

More than 20 AIDWA members, led by the District Secretary Radhika protested in front of their association office on Park Street here. They wore onion garlands and raised slogans against the price increase.
They slammed both Centre and the State governments for failing to curb the skyrocketing price.

The protest also witnessed women sitting in a circle around heaps of onion and crying over the price hike.

The protesting women suggested that the government should sell onions in ration shops and it should be distributed based on the number of members in a family.
