Coimbatore: As many as 25 people including Nagai Thiruvalluvan, President of Tamil Puligal Katchi who were arrested for protesting seeking justice for the 17 victims who died in a wall collapse incident in Mettupalayam were granted conditional bail on Friday.
Coimbatore: As many as 25 people including Nagai Thiruvalluvan, President of Tamil Puligal Katchi who were arrested for protesting seeking justice for the 17 victims who died in a wall collapse incident in Mettupalayam were granted conditional bail on Friday.
Justice PM Raikhana Parveen, District Munsif cum Judicial Magistrate at Madukkarai Court granted conditional bail for all 25 people who were arrested and later remanded for 14 days judicial custody.
Over hundred protestors including the relatives of the deceased and representatives of of pro-Dalit organisations staged a massive demonstration seeking justice for the 17 Dalits including three children and 11 women who were crushed to death after the compound wall of a house collapsed on four houses in AT Colony in Nadur Village in Mettupalayam, on December 2.
To disperse the crowd, the police lathi-charged which created a huge uproar amid the affected families and Pro-Dalit organisations. Among the protestors, 25 people who spear headed the protest were courted arrest and remanded.
Several political parties condemned the manhandling by the police and demanded to release all the protestors.
