Coimbatore: Within a day’s time after the Madras High Court ordered the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC), Coimbatore District Administration and Forest Department to not remove any vegetation from the Singanallur Lake located inside the city, contractors of the Smart City Project taken up by CCMC have blatantly flouted the ruling by clearing up vegetation in the lake area here.
The order that came on Thursday seems to have fallen on deaf ears, as CCMC had taken no notice of it whatsoever but have gone on ahead with the ground breaking ceremony that was done recently.

The earth movers belonging to the contractors have started removing vegetation from the bund of the second lake near the railway line.
It may be noted that the High Court had asked the officials to keep away from such acts and remove only Prosopis Juliflora trees from the lake, if required.
The order by the bench comprising of Justices M. Sathyanaranan and R. Hemalatha came after a Raman Godhanpani filed a PIL regarding illegal fishing and encroachment in the lake.
The bench had also asked the CCMC, District Administration and Forest Department to respond before January 22 for complaints mentioned by the petitioner.
