As the soil receded, cracks were also spotted in trees and rocks leaving the public and researchers in jinx.
Following heavy rains in the Nilgiris districts, soil erosion and land slide occurred in many places cutting off villages.

In the recent incident, the road that connects five tribal hamlets including Bangala Padi receded for three meters cutting them off mainland.
Soil on the nearby areas also slid pulling down tea plants and other trees. Following the incident, officials from Soil and Geology have been alerted who might conduct a investigation to ascertain the cause of the phenomenon.
The inclement weather conditions prevailing in the Nilgiris has already done much damage and disrupted the normal lives of the people, now this peculiar phenomenon has left the people perturbed.
