Coimbatore: Following the suspension of Inspector Senthil Kumar of Variety Hall road police station for carelessly handling the murder case of an elderly woman here, the special team who were assigned with the case have nabbed the accused.
Coimbatore: Following the suspension of Inspector Senthil Kumar of Variety Hall road police station for carelessly handling the murder case of an elderly woman here, the special team who were assigned with the case have nabbed the accused.
Ranganayagi (80) wife of Subramaniam, of Sullivan Road, in Variety Hall was found dead at home on June 18, under suspicious circumstances.

A complaint was filed by Subramaniam at Variety Hall Road Police Station. After the autopsy report confirmed that the elderly woman was strangled to death, the police changed the case as death due to murder.
Meanwhile, even after five months after the incident, the investigations did not progress. Also, allegations were rife that Inspector Senthil Kumar had not handled the case properly. Following which he was suspended by the Police Commissioner.
Later, a team of police under the guidance of DC, Balaji Saravanan (L&O) led by RS Puram Police inspector Dheiva Sigamani probed the case and commenced investigation.
The police nabbed the accused on Sunday and identified him as Senthil Kumar, a building worker. The accused confessed that he had plotted the murder after knowing that the elderly woman was alone at her home. And, had strangled her to death to rob her jewels to buy alcohol.
Subsequently, the police produced Senthil Kumar at the District Combined Coimbatore Court complex. Later, he was remanded and went to Coimbatore central prison.
