Coimbatore: The photos of Rural administration Minister S. P. Velumani’s brother, S.P. Anbarasan inspecting smart city projects posted yesterday on Coimbatore Corporation’s FB page has raised the eyebrows of the public who question what Minister's brother has to do with inspection?
"S.P. Anbarasan is no way related to corporation projects except for he being Minister S. P. Velumani’s brother who happen to be the minister in charge of Municipal administration. Now, he inspecting projects along with Corporation Commissioner is appalling", slammed a social activist from the city.
A photo of Anbarasan alongside Corporation Commissioner J. Sravan Kumar, Deputy Commissioner S. Prasanna Ramasamy and senior corporation officials was posted in Corporation’s FB page and a foot note saying Social activist inspecting smart city project.
When questioned the Corporation Commissioner, J. Sravan Kumar he said it was a coincidence. I was there at Valankulam along with senior corporation officials for an inspection. Mr. Anbarasan who happened to be on his way to Siruthuli stopped by, which was a mere coincidence.“
He also added that by oversight the picture was posted in Corporation's Facebook page.
Though Mr. Anbarasan, Chairman of Nallaram trust was not available for a comment, the photo and the caption saying the inspection was held under his guidance has stirred up controversy.
It may be recalled that it was alleged that P Senthil & Co, a firm run by SP Velumani’s own brother P Anbarasan has bagged projects worth more than Rs 80 crore from the Coimbatore corporation for the past eight years.
