"Following a preliminary inspection, a team of experts will inspect the location and analyse the building plan and evaluate the possible chances of damages during heavy rains and landslide", said J. Innocent Divya, the Nilgiris District Collector.
Addressing the media on Wednesday in Ooty, the Nilgiris District Collector emphasized the need for primary inspection and stressed, "Preliminary inspections followed by thorough inspections by mining, forest and engineering department will be carried out to study the stability of the location. The approval for construction will be finalised only after ascertaining the risk factors and precautionary measures to be followed by the builders."
The Collector noted that basic facilities at Oveli, a tribal hamlet near Ooty will be augumented at a budget of Rs. 20 crores from the funds allotted by the State government. As per the Supreme Court order, 789 houses will be provided with electricity, drinking water connections, roads and sidewalk facility.
The Collector reitrated that unapproved construction activities will be taken on a serious note and stringent action will be initiated on the perpretators.
Though the residents and tourist van operators from Masinagudi are constantly requesting to open the Kallati- Masinagudi road for regular traffic, the Collector cited the accidents in the past and notified that the ban to use the road will be extended for a further period.
