Coimbatore: District Collector K. Rajamani on Saturday chaired a review meeting to discuss about various security and development features surrounding the elephant rejuvenation camp to be held in Mettupalayam here.
District Collector along with officials from various departments including revenue, forest, electricity, police and transport, discussed the possible means through which the camp can be held safely and successfully.
He said that various measures have been taken by the district administration for the camp including regulation of traffic, offering full security for mahouts and elephants.
“Considering the safety of the elephants from wild elephant attack, we have increased the fences and beefed up anti-poaching watchers who would be on patrol throughout the camp,” he said.
The Collector noted that the mahouts and elephants would also be offered clean water and food along with medical treatment given by profession doctors and veterinarians.
"108 ambulance would also be stationed at the venue incase of emergencies. During the camp, elephants are to be provided special treatment for ailments and vaccinations if necessary, administered by trained veterinarians", the Collector said.
Since Ministers are expected to visit the venue, police security will be enhanced around the area, the Collector noted.
