Coimbatore: A Class 11 student from Mettupalayam is being lauded for his discovery of a device that can rescue children stuck in borewell.
The tragedy of two-year old Surjith's death after being stuck in an abandoned 600 ft borewell near his home at Nadakattupatti in Trichy district grieved the hearts of the entire nation. Such deaths reportedly occur due to inadequate equipment for rescue operations. But, Subhash Chandran, a student from Mettupalayam who was very disturbed by the tragedy that unfolded with Surjith began to research on finding a solution to put a stop to such tragedies from occurring in the future. In his quest, Subhash Chandran has come up with a device to rescue children stuck in borewells.
He has reportedly invented the simple rescue device toiling for the last month after conducting various studies with the help of his father. Subhash demonstrated the operation of the device to his fellow students and teachers at his school today. The device invented by him can lift the child without any impact on their hand and can hold a weight of about 5 kg.
Subhash's fellow-students and teachers were greatly impressed by his invention and lauded him for his effort and labour.

He has also designed a series of monitors for modern cameras embedded in the same equipment to monitor the child's activities. Subhash's device bears testament to the fact that today's students are tomorrow's scientists. It has been reported that very soon, the operation of the device will be demonstrated to the Government officials.
