Coimbatore: Google Earth pictures taken in 2010 and 2019 show the extent of damage caused by red earth mining by brick kilns and industries according to Ashok Srinithi, PMK's State Youth Wing Deputy Secretary.

Ashok Srinithi on Monday along with his party cadres submitted a petition to the District Revenue Officer demanding an enquiry commission for investigating and inquiring corrupt officials associated with the issue.
Speaking to the press, Ashok Srinithi said, “PMK has been working in this case with solid proof. We have attached details of the Supreme Court judgement on mining. The National Green Tribunal in 2013 has forbidden any person, company or authority from digging brick earth without obtaining environmental clearance. This order had been sent to the State Pollution Control Board but no action has been taken, till date."

The PMK Youth Wing District Secretary further alleged that in spite of an order from the Central Pollution Control Board in 2017 to close down all the brick kilns operating without permission from State PCBs, the kilns were allowed to operate.
"PCB officials knew that brick kilns were operating without permission. At a press meet held in 2016, an official openly said that the kilns are operating without permission but no action has been taken. From information obtained through RTI, we have obtained the list of brick kilns paying mining charges. If the kilns have not obtained permission, how can they be paying the charges," questioned Ashok Srinithi who also demanded stern action against corrupt officials and immediate closure of brick kilns.
