The Nilgiris: In a narrow escape, several bus passengers escaped from being hurt, after heaps of soil rolled over from a slope near a bus stand in Kotagiri.

Fearing further tragedy, the public have petitioned the municipality authorities to tighten the soil on the slope which would lead to falling of loose rocks.

In a soil erosion incident, heaps of soil and rocks rolled over from a slope and fell on a bus stand in Kothagiri on the night of Thursday. Luckily, none were hurt as the incident occurred during the night hours.

The rescue team acted immediately and removed the heaps of soil that engulfed the bus stand. However, the rocks that rolled over the ceiling of the bus stand is yet to be removed.

As the bus stand which has an ATM close by with lactating rooms was widely used by the locals, they have petitioned the authorities to set right the damaged bus stand.

Citing lack of funds to remove the rock, the officials assured the public that they would act upon as soon as funds are alloted.
