Fathima, a Kerala native, joined IIT-Madras in August 2018 to pursue masters in humanities and development studies. Shockingly, she was found hanging at her hostel room on November 9. Claiming harassment as the cause behind her death, her parents have sought justice through CBI inquiry.
Addressing the reporters on this matter at Coimbatore Press Club, SDPI State President Nellai Mubarak said that the perpetrators responsible for the death of Fatima Latif should be subjected to stringent legal action. He noted that the the case has a lot of uncertainties, the CBI should hold inquiries to probe the reason behind the students death.
He also hinted that the CBI probe should ascertain, if Fathima took the extreme step due to religious discrimination.
Commenting on the recent Babri Masjid verdict, Nellai Mubarak said that the verdict has to be reviewed and justice must be given accorded as per law and not twisted to suit political pressures.
The SDPI State President opined that his party will support the farmers protest against high tension towers on November 18. He further added that the state government should take immediate steps to build a check dam across the Thenpennai river.
