Coimbatore: Upon orders from Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order), L. Balaji Saravanan, the city police have intensified vehicle checks in the city limits and outskirts to nab drug peddlers and keep a check on free movement of banned gutka products.
Coimbatore: Upon orders from Deputy Commissioner (Law and Order), L. Balaji Saravanan, the city police have intensified vehicle checks in the city limits and outskirts to nab drug peddlers and keep a check on free movement of banned gutka products.
In one such vehicle inspection near the outskirts of Saravanampatti, Inspector Selvaraj stopped a tempo van, after they fell suspicious on the driver. Upon inspection, they found banned tobacco products in the tempo and arrested Shestaram (50) and Motilal (38) for possessing banned gutka products.
The duo revealed that they had procured the gukta products from a godown in Mopiripalayam near Karumathampatti.
Following this, Saravanampatti police conducted a raid at a godown located on Mettukkadu Estate Road in Mopiripalayam and confiscated banned gutka products like Hans and Ganesh from the godown.
The value of these is estimated to be around 72 lakhs. Subsequently, the police have arrested two persons involved in the smuggling and are investigating
