Coimbatore:: Disappointed by the inaction of the City Corporation to provide adequate street lighting, proper roads and garbage bins in their locale, over 400 residents of the sixth ward living in KNG Pudur here have demanded immediate action.
Highlighting their everyday plight, the residents cry foul on the health hazards caused by callous dumping of wastes by people from nearby residential areas including Somayampalayam panchayat. They allege that lack of bins has promoted the residents to dump wastes all over the place.
Especially, chicken and meat wastes are dumped along the sides of the 350 meter link road between KNG Pudur and Kauvdampalayam which has led to stray dog menace and other health hazards. At times, people set these wastes on fire and pollute the air, they lamented.
As no tar roads were laid in the 350 meter long link road, the road turns extremely slushy during rains and pose serious threat to the pedestrians and motorists. Adding to the woes is lack of street lighting and overgrown vegetations along the road sides and in empty plots.
The residents complain that a result of such unclean environment, households, factories, marriage halls and meat shops tend to dispose off their garbage making the whole place reek with foul smell and pollution.
As the link road is the only primary road used by them for connectivity, the residents urge the Corporation to look into the issue and resolve it on priority.
