Coimbatore: In a joint venture, the Coimbatore Forest Division is to conduct a two-day integrated birds and butterflies survey here along with three nature based Non-Governmental Organisations.
The survey that would cover all the seven ranges here would begin on Saturday and conclude the following day.
More than 50 volunteers are expected to participate in the programme along with foresters from the division.
"The Coimbatore District has an estimated bird species of over 400 and over 270 butterfly species. The current survey will cover all the ranges of the division, and collect data on the species occurrence, population, and other environmental factors associated with them,” said a release from the organisation.
The organisers added that the results would help assess and plan the conservation plans in the future. The annual exercise will be conducted to judge the long-term trends, and as part of continuous assessment.
Around 14 teams would participate in the survey, which is co-organised by Worldwide Fund Nature (WWF) India, Coimbatore Nature Society (CNS) and The Nature and Butterfly Society (TNBS).
