Commemorating Children's Day, the Collector reiterated that the toll free phone no. 1098 is mainly functional to address child safety issues and to question injustice faced by children. Approximately 3200 tip- offs have helped to rescue children in Nilgiris district alone. More cases under POCSO have been filed too.
When the public share child related information to 1098, their name and information will be kept confidential, she said.
She also emphasised the importance of conducting awareness programmes in all schools which she felt would enable children to contact 1098 when they have a problem to find a solution.
The District Superintendent of Police, Sasimohan, Child help groups and school students participated in this event.
