While addressing the gathering Minister for Municipal Administration & RDI said "Only the state of Tamil Nadu has a distinct organisation for Public health primary healthcare services under the Government of Tamil Nadu led by Chief Minister. Our government has taken many steps to keep our state clean. One of the most important steps is to appoint school children as health ambassadors.
The idea of implementing this idea through school children was thought because great leaders and poets have said that any plan or scheme implemented through children will always be a success. Based on the advice of CM of Tamil Nadu to create social awareness among the students. For this initiative, the students have been appointed as Health ambassadors and are given an identity card. They are urged to emphasize the thought of "Clean Chennai, Hygienic Chennai" and "Clean houses, Healthy streets" to the public.
Every school has a group comprising 25 students and one teacher. With about 20,000 school students as health ambassadors, awareness was raised on the prevention of flu, eradication of epidemic diseases and in keeping the residential and neighbourhood area clean.
Addressing the student health ambassadors he said "Being health ambassadors of Chennai Corporation, It is all of your's duty to educate the public on disposing unnecessary waste and debris from home, and to educate the public to ensure that water is not stagnated unnecessarily, if the houses are clean, to prevent the entry of mosquitoes inside the house and to take measures to prevent them from breeding outside the house."
Minister S.P Velumani congratulated the 73 teachers of 38 schools in Chennai who have undergone Montessori training to implement the Montessori education system in kindergartens of 200 Elementary and Middle schools in the metropolitan Chennai Corporation.
He urged the public to cooperate with the health ambassadors and make out state to be first in being a clean state. He then presented shields to the top 3 student health ambassadors.
Chennai Corporation Commissioner K.Prakash IAS, Deputy Commissioner (Health) P.Madusudhan Reddy IAS, Deputy Commissioner (Education) P.Kumaravel Pandian IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Central Region, P.N Sridhar IAS, Education Officer Bharathidasan, Regional Officer, Assistant Education Officers and school students took part in the event.
