The daily mountain train service from Mettupalayam to Ooty has been recognized as a heritage icon by the UNESCO. It has the grandeur of travelling through dense forests and picturesque landscape. Meanwhile, since the onset of the northeast monsoon, there have been frequent landslides along the NMR track that halted the service for a few days. The mountain train service from Mettupalayam to Ooty was halted due to the landslide since a large boulder had fallen on the railway track between the Adderley-Hillgrove railway stations. With the repair work completed, the mountain train service has been resumed from today.
As usual, the NMR train started its journey from Mettupalayam at 7.15 am with more than 150 passengers to Coonoor. The tourists who had pre-booked for travelling on the mountain train looked excited about their long-awaited train journey.
