Coimbatore: In an unfortunate incident, four college students were killed after a speeding train hit them near Irugur. The Peelamedu railway police are carrying out an intense investigation.
Five youth, including a student of RVS College near Sulur and three former students who had completed three years of their course and had to write arrear exams at the same college went to a TASMAC shop nearby, to consume alcohol. After consuming liquor there, they went back to their room once the shops closed.
Again, the five of them went to another TASMAC shop in Ravuthur Pirivu to buy liquor bottles and were reportedly consuming alcohol on the railway track near Irugur.
Meanwhile, the Alappuzha Express Train from Alappuzha to Chennai was speeding on that track towards its destination. The five youth who were reportedly in an inebriated state did not know that the train was approaching them and were hit by the train.
Four among the five youth died on the spot while one of the youth who was severely injured has been admitted to the hospital. The deceased were identified as Siddiqui Raja (23), a resident of Kodaikanal, Rajashekar (22), a resident of Nilakottai, Gowtham (21), a resident of Rajapalayam and Karuppusamy (22). Visveshwaran, a resident of Theni district who was severely injured was rushed to the hospital. The dead bodies of the deceased were sent to the Government Hospital for autopsy.
The Podanur railway police have registered a case and are conducting an intense investigation.
