Karthik alias Kannan (35) who was one among the four maoists killed on October 29 by Thunderbolt team, the special task force of Kerala police was cremated in Coimbatore on the late hours of Wednesday.

Manikavasagam, the Maoist leader from Salem and Kannan alias Karthik from Pudukottai were among the four maoists gunned down at Agali forest area of Kerala’s Palakkad district on October 29.

While the bodies of the four deceased maoist were kept at Thrissur government hospital, the police decided to hand over the corpse to their families. The bodies of Karthik and Manikavasagam were planned to be sent to their respective natives. However, it is reported that the people belonging to their native village have disapproved to bury their bodies there, hence, the police made arrangements to cremate Karthik's body in Coimbatore.
His body was cremated at Najundapuram Crematorium here in the presence of his close family members and friends on the late hours of Wednesday. The last rituals were performed by his brother.
Meenammal, mother of Karthik who was in a very dejected state, said that the death of her son is a lifetime tragedy to her. "I always wanted him to get married and lead a peaceful life. Sadly, am now at the crematorium to perform the last rites to my beloved son. He always good and cared for the people", she sobbed and bid goodbye to her son.
