The golf course is owned by the Forest Department and leased by the Forest Department for 99 years. State and National level golf tournaments too are held here. With the completion of the lease period, the Gymkhana Club management owes a balance of Rs. 50 crores to the forest department and Rs. 15 crores to the revenue sector.
With the case being heard in the Supreme Court, the judges have now ordered for the acquisition of land under the control of the golf club administration. Subsequently, the Nilgiris Divisional Forest Officer Gurusamy and Saravanan formally received the land in writing from the private golf club executives.
"35 hectares of land belonging to the Forest Department will be maintained by the Forest Department as protected land and the private wire fence will be soon removed to ensure that wildlife is not affected," stated officials.
