Coimbatore: In a tragic turn of events, a patient admitted at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital 10 days ago died today due to lack of proper treatment and negligence on the part of the hospital administration.

Anthony (65), a resident of Amman Kulam area in Puliakulam was admitted at CMCH on the complaint of suffering from frequent spells of fainting. Since the day of being admitted at the hospital, it has been reported that right from doctors to paramedics, ward boys aiding patients in stretchers and medical assistants working in scan labs had not cooperated to treat the ailing man.
It has now been alleged that no proactive step was taken to even scan the tumour in his head in the past 10 days that he had been at the hospital. When questioned about the blatant negligence, healthcare providers in the hospital blamed each other.
In this scenario, Anthony's son Rajesh and his relatives complained to the Hospital Management yesterday. Following the complaint, action was taken upon the contract workers Thamarai and Rasathi. But the doctors reportedly did not make any effort to treat Anthony. Meanwhile, due to deteriorating health, Anthony passed away today.
A grief-stricken Rajesh who was fighting with hospital authorities and staff for his father's treatment for the past 10 days felt that had he not admitted his father in hospital, he would have at least died peacefully. He accused the hospital management of not taking action against the doctors and nurses whose negligence was the main cause for his father's death.
"My father died of hunger and depression while waiting for the MRI scan, without eating food every day," lamented Rajesh. He further added that only if stringent action is taken against the doctors and nurses who showed negligence in treating a patient will such tragedies be averted in the future.
