Coimbatore: About 750 DMK candidates received optional petition to contest in the local elections for the positions of Mayor and Councillors in the city.
The last local election was held in 2011 and the ruling term ended in 2016. Following this, the election scheduled for 2016 has been stalled for the past three years. A case was filed regarding the delay at the Madras High Court following which the Court ordered for the local elections to be held immediately.

Following this, the State Election Commission is gearing up to conduct the local body polls. With the local elections around the corner, political parties are receiving optional petition. As part of this, MLA N Karthik distributed optional petition on behalf of DMK to interested candidates to contest for the positions of Mayor and Councillors.

As of 11 am this morning, about 750 interested DMK candidates received optional petition which will be issued at the Coimbatore District DMK office, from today.
The District In-charge Committee members Nachimuthu, Uma Maheshwari, Zonal Party Secretary S M Samy, Zonal Party Authorities Sethuraman, General Committee Member Advocate Magudapathi, Team Organizers Kottai Abbas, Rahman, Ramamurthy, Decision Panel members M R Selvaraj, Maari Selvam, Advocates Anbhuchezian and many others took part in the event.

Similarly, interested candidates on behalf of MDMK received optional petition a few days ago which were received at the MDMK office in the Sidhapudhur area.
