In the last two days, the elephant could be spotted only once around 3 am on Wednesday near the forest boundary in the Azhiyar beat. Otherwise, despite best efforts from about 70 forest staff, the whereabouts of the elephant could not be spotted.
Officials say that even if the elephant is spotted, the terrain would not be conducive to dart the animal inside the Reserve as it could turn risky. “We are trying to do whatever possible to capture the animal,” stated an official.
Since Kumki Pari was entering into musth, he was transported to Kozhikamuthi elephant camp in Anamalai Tiger Reserve and was replaced by Kabil Dev from the same camp.
Kabil Dev reached the makeshift camp late night on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the elusive wild elephant had ventured out of the forest and again attacked a house in a village. Three teams have been deployed to spot the wild rampaging elephant.
