Coimbatore: The annual 'Annaabishekam' festival was celebrated with religious fervour at the Sri Subramanyaswamy Temple, Valparai on Monday. Over 1000 devotees took part in the festivity which was followed by Annadhanam.

Every year on the full moon day of the Tamil month of Aippasi, the deity of Lord Siva would be decorated with cooked rice followed by special prayers. The devotees mostly from in and around the hamlets of the hilly terrain offer prayers on this special occasion seeking good monsoon rains through the year.
As part of the festivity, the deity was decorated with 150 kg of cooked rice, fruits and flowers. The traditional 'kummi' dance was the highlight of the festivity in which women danced to the tunes of traditional songs sung during the occassion.
Holding to the age-old custom, the rice offered to the deity was later immersed into Nadumalai river.
