The Nilgiris: As part of a latest initiative, 42 lakh teachers will be trained nationwide to create awareness among students about the POCSO Act.
The 5th batch of teachers from Government Schools in Coonoor, Kotagiri and Ooty were trained under the NISHTHA Integrated School Education Scheme held at the Providence Women's College, Coonoor in Nilgiris District.

Around 150 teachers participated in the training while 750 teachers have already completed the training. As part of this training scheme, teachers are being trained in 12 areas comprising of safety during their childhood, global and environmental education, imparting education to children using innovative techniques, creating awareness about the POCSO Act through trained teachers among children and society, as a whole.
The Nilgiris District Chief Educational Officer, Nasirudeen inaugurated the training. State level trainers and coordinators Vijayaraj, Jayanthi, Malathi and Meena, Heads - Anand and Amutha trained the teachers.
According to the coordinators of the program, 1303 Government School teachers from the Nilgiris district are ear-marked to be trained, through which lakhs of school students are expected to benefit.
