A lone elephant with its two-year old calf had been camping in a private tea estate, since the calf's foot had a big lump that made it impossible for it to walk. Unwilling to leave the calf, the mother elephant remained close to the calf making it difficult for the Forest Department to treat the young elephant. However, forest officials had continued to monitor the movement of the elephant.

Meanwhile, the calf was reportedly found dead today. Over 10 foresters had to chase away the mother elephant using a vehicle to retrieve the dead body of the elephant calm. After examining the dead calf, the officials buried the young elephant in a deep pit.
