According to forest officials, the elephant had reportedly killed a man and attacked a woman here a few days ago but had thereon ventured deep inside the Reserve and not traceable.
Over 70 foresters along with veterinarians have been posted in the area to track the elephant. However, heavy rainfall in the area where the animal is currently roaming has made the search cumbersome.
Briefing media persons here, the District Forest Officer of Pollachi, Marimuthu said that they would try and trace the elphant soon and dart it with a tranquilliser as soon as possible. “We attempted to capture it yesterday, but could not do so due to unfavourable weather conditions. The terrain is also proving very difficult and darting must be done carefully,” he added.
Meanwhile, foresters have sent away the Kumki elephant Pari to Kozhikamuthi elephant camp at Top Slip since it was entering the musth season. Pari is to be replaced by Marimuthu from the same camp.
