Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) is to host a conclave on 'Bulk Waste Management' on November 16 and 17 at Suguna Kalyana Mandapam where bulk waste generators can be educated on ways and means of managing their waste.
Coimbatore: The Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) is to host a conclave on 'Bulk Waste Management' on November 16 and 17 at Suguna Kalyana Mandapam where bulk waste generators can be educated on ways and means of managing their waste.
To implement a few directives of Solid Waste Management (SWM) rules 2016, CCMC had set some ground rules for bulk waste generators. In July 2019, the Corporation had sent out a communication to bulk waste generators to handle their own waste. To help the generators device methods to do so, the Corporation is organized a conclave on November 16 and 17, where the bulk waste generators will learn ways and means of managing their waste.
Bulk waste generators include apartment complexes, hotels, restaurants, institutions or anyone generating 50 kg/100 kg waste, per day. According to SWM rules 2016, the bulk waste generators have to segregate the waste into bio-degradable (wet waste), non-biodegradable (dry waste) and domestic hazardous waste in suitable bins and waste ought to be disposed of, scientifically.
According to Corporation sources, out of 1100 tonnes of waste generated per day, 150 to 200 tonnes are generated by bulk waste generators. CCMC had given notices to more than 400 bulk waste generators last year and asked them to manage their waste as per the Solid Waste Management rules.
The apprehension of bulk waste generators is on how to manage their waste by themselves. To guide them, the Corporation's conclave will be a hand-holding exercise. Various methods for managing their waste will be discussed by experts which the generators can deploy according to their convenience
