Coimbatore: Five men from Kerala were arrested by the Valparai police after they attempted to assualt and verbally abuse the forest department staff who caught them red-handed for carrying liquor across the TN-Kerala border near Sholaiyar dam in Valparai on Monday.
Coimbatore: Five men from Kerala were arrested by the Valparai police after they attempted to assualt and verbally abuse the forest department staff who caught them red-handed for carrying liquor across the TN-Kerala border near Sholaiyar dam in Valparai on Monday.
During a regular vehicle check at Malukupaarai forest department checkpost near Sholaiyar dam, the forest department staff found liquor bottles in a car from Nemmara in Kerala. As it is illegal to carry liquor across State borders, the forest department staff inquired the men and seized the liquor bottles.
While doing so, five men engaged in a verbal argument with the forest staff and attempted to assault them. Upon information, the Valparai police rushed to the spot and arrested the men for interrupting government officials from doing their duty and attempting to assault them. Cases were also filed on them for carrying liquor from Kerala into Tamil Nadu border.
The five men were identified as Shibu, Kumar, Shabu, Sivaraj and Abdul from Nemmara, Kerala.
