Coimbatore: After the first phase of investigating Maoist Deepak who was captured by the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force (STF), the Police have revealed that various guerrilla training meeting pamphlets and explosives required to manufacture bombs have been seized from him. During his capture, the police had even confiscated a country gun from him.

The police revealed that the accused had been treated for his injuries below his left knee and also on his left hand. After revealing that his name was Deepak and that he hailed from Chhattisgarh, he also said that his other name was Chandru. He raised slogans such as, "Zindabad Zindabad CPI Maoist Zindabad," "People War Zindabad," "Mao Baat Zindabad."
Thereafter, in the first phase of the investigation, Deepak stated that he was a Central Committee member of the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army and warned that nearing him would result in Tamil Nadu being shattered.
Deepak was also found to be in possession of incriminating documents and pamphlets regarding upcoming Maoist meetings. He had also notices of the Communist Party of India, Maoist Danadakaranya Special Zonal Committee April 2014 and Communist Party of India, Maoist Central Committee November 10, three editorial issues of 'Kaatu Thee', 'People Liberation Guerrilla Army' (Kabini Wing) News Bulletin 21st edition 2015 and other incriminating documents of the Maoist movement and operation.
Sub Inspector, Ponraj arrested and booked him under 121 (A) 121 (A) IPC & 16.18.20. UAPA Act 1967 25 (A), Arms Act 1985 4 of Explosive Substances Act 1908, under the orders of the Deputy Superintendent of Perianaickenpalayam, Mani. The black bag belonging to Deepak had a single barrel breech-loading (SBBL) gun, Rex 90 explosives (IER class 2), diameter 25 mm, weight 125 grams - 4 numbers, one wire role, 16 cartridges, detonators electrical - 4 numbers, black-coloured cello tapes and many incriminating documents in connection with the CPI Maoists, according to police reports.
The Maoist movement had been banned by the Central Government as part of measures taken by the Home Ministry. It was banned by the State Government as well. As the case falls under anti-national activities, the first step investigation report has been sent to the Chief Justice of the District Sessions Court. Following this, Chief Justice of Sessions Court, Sakthivel, visited Maoist Deepak in the early hours of the morning and ordered to have him remanded in judicial custody until November 22.
Deepak's Capture
On November 9, a team led by the STF Police Inspector John comprising Head Constables Prabhu, Manimaran, Maheswara Moorthi, Thangadurai and Suresh, and a team led by the Sub Inspector of Police, Selva Suresh Britto under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Panpalan were on the lookout for Maoists. They began a search operation from the Sembukkarai tribal settlement to Perumalmudi foothills.
Around 9.30 am, three Maoists including two men and a woman with guns were seen fleeing from the police force. While attempting to capture them, the trio fled the scene. However, one of them fell into a gorge and was rescued by the police. He was administered first aid at the Veerapandi Government Hospital and later admitted at the Coimbatore Government Hospital, for further treatment.
Following his capture, the Tamil Nadu STF had intensified its manhunt for Maoists throughout the State. Patrols had been increased, especially in Nilgiris and Coimbatore forest areas along the Kerala border. The STF and Naxalite Special Division (NSD) personnel had intensified their combing operations in Mangarai, Athikkadavu and Upper Bhavani sectors, after Maoists exchanged fire with security forces in Manjakandi forest area near Attapadi in Kerala.
