Coimbatore: The Chief Justice of the District Session Court ordered Maoist Deepak who is undergoing medical treatment in the 'Red Zone' of the Government Hospital in Coimbatore to be remanded in judicial custody till November 22.
Coimbatore: The Chief Justice of the District Session Court ordered Maoist Deepak who is undergoing medical treatment in the 'Red Zone' of the Government Hospital in Coimbatore to be remanded in judicial custody till November 22.
Chief Justice Sakthivel visited Maoist Deepak in the early hours of this morning at the GH. Deepak was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Special Task Force (STF) who have further intensified their search for Maoists throughout the State. Patrols have been increased, particularly in the districts of Nilgiris and Coimbatore's forest areas along the Kerala border.
STF had intensified combing operations in Mangarai, Athikkadavu and Upper Bhavani sectors after Maoists exchanged fire with security forces in Manjakandi forest area near Attapadi in Kerala. Following this, based on confidential information received from the Intelligence agency, the STF and the Naxalite Special Division (NSD) personnel combed the entire Sembukkarai tribal settlement to Perumalmudi foothills and found three men in possession of guns.
While attempting to capture them, the three men fled the scene. However, one of them fell into a gorge and was rescued by the police. He was given first aid at the Veerapandi Government Hospital and later admitted at the Coimbatore Government Hospital for further treatment.
Subsequent inquiries revealed that the person thus caught was a member of the Maoist movement named Deepak, who hails from Chhattisgarh and that his real name is Chandru. However, the police stated that he claimed to be a Sainik from Madhya Pradesh.
