Coimbatore: The Barlikadu Eco-tourism Centre has been reopened for tourists after three weeks. The Eco-tourism which had remained closed due to the flooding in Pillur Dam has reopened today, since the water flow in the dam has reduced.

The Barlikadu Eco-tourism project is being run by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and tribals in Barlikadu, a dense forest area in Mettupalayam for overe 10 years now. Situated in the picturesque hill station where the Pillur Dam is located, this scenic tourist spot is visited by a large number of tourists from different parts of Tamil Nadu as well as from neighbouring states.

People who wish for a day out amidst nature, make bookings online for the eco-tour in Barlikadu with the Forest Department and await confirmation. During the weekend, bookings are at its peak with tourists enjoying boating, aquaculture, tropical forest trekking and tropical jungle trekking with trained tribal people along the Pillur Dam which is located in the middle of a dense forest.

Owing to heavy rains in the Western Ghats over the past one month, water levels in Pillur Dam had risen and surplus water from the dam was discharged since the entire Pillur Dam had reached its maximun capacity thrice in the last month. Due to the overflowing reservoir, the area around the dam had submerged and hence eco-tourism in Barlikadu had been been closed for three weeks by the Karamadai Forest Department.

Now, since the water inflow in the Pillur Dam has considerably reduced, the Barlikadu Eco-Tourism has been reopened from today.
