Sujith Wilson from Nadukattupatti village in Trichy district fell into an abandoned borewell a couple of weeks ago and after being trapped in it for five days, only his decomposed body was lifted out of the borewell. Following the incident, many experts, engineers and students who were moved by the helplessness of rescue teams in such cases began to look to design tools to rescue children who get trapped in borewells.
As part of this initiative, a Coimbatore businessman T Navneet designed a new instrument to save children who fall into borewells. Two ropes are attached to the tool resembling an artificial hand and sent into the borewell. Since in most cases, a child's hand is always facing upward, the artificial toy will grip the child's hand tightly. The tool then will tie the child's hand with the the two ropes and make it easy for the child to be lifted up easily. It is worth noting that this tool can go up to 300 feet deep.
Moreover, this HOS tool is 3 ft. in diameter and is capable of rescuing children trapped in the smallest of holes. Since the tool has been designed to be small, there is no danger of mud being loosened while rescuing the child. Also, because of its simple shape, this tool can be easily used by anyone.
Navneet says, "I am working on creating a tool that is a hundred times more efficient than the present tool. The newly-developed instrument is to be provided free of charge to rescue teams involved in rescuing children trapped inside borewells. The Government should take some simple steps to prevent such accidents," he reiterated.
The instrument is named HOS - HANDS OF SUJITH to indicate that if a child falls into a borewell, the child will be saved by the Hands of Sujith himself. Navneet believes that this tool can prevent loss of innocent lives in the future.
