The Nilgiris: The locals in Ooty have urged the Municipality Administration to take quick action to curb horses from roaming around town unattended which has caused many accidents among motorists in Ooty.

Stray horses and cows have always been a growing menace in Ooty, posing risks to both motorists as well as pedestrians. The stray horses are seen roaming in areas around Main Bazaar, Commercial Road, ADC, Charring Cross, Botanical Garden, Collector's Office and Hospital Road in Ooty.

These stray horses have reportedly been a major cause for motorcycle accidents. As a result, the welfare organization has filed a complaint to the District Administration to curb free roaming of livestock around the town.

It had been suggested earlier to register the horses and provide tokens to horse owners. Of these, only a few horses were registered and received a token, while most horses were not registered. The Municipal Administration which seems to have let this go unnoticed, are now being urged by the public to immediately halt the movement of stray horses and cattle on the streets across Ooty.
