Coimbatore: "The local body elections which are scheduled to be held this December, after a long gap of three years should not be held for name sake, instead all bylaws governing the elections should be implemented", opined Nallasamy, State Coordinator for Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement.

Addressing the media here on Wednesday at the press club, Nallasamy urged that, "Candidates contesting for Panchayats, Mayor and councillors should contest independently with unique symbols. Until 1967, primary education, primary health, animal welfare and agriculture departments which were under the governnace of the local body has been removed and handed over to State departments. At least during the upcoming elections, these mistakes should be rectified."

Apprising on a state-wide protest, the Toddy welfare coordinator warned that if the State government does not lift the the ban on toddy which has been in practice for over 30 years, they would stage a massive demonstration on Jauary 21, 2020

He also reitrated that the State Government should take steps to help farmers produce neera and toddy from palmyra palm and market the same in huge levels. He stressed that they are health drinks and not alcoholic.

Nallasamy also highlighted that coconut, gingelly, groundnut and mustard oils are not being sold at subsidised prices in Public distribution shops.

He also opined that several countries use 85 percent ethanol in petrol used for vehicles and it would be better for India to follow the option.
