TANGEDCO contract workers have been on an indefinite strike since October 1, demanding the grant of Field Assistant posts to workers who joined before 1998 and the provision of Rs.380 per day, for those who were employed before 2008.

As part of the ongoing protests, the contract workers in the district laid siege to the Tirupur District Collector's office. They warned they would hand over their Aadhaar and Voter ID cards to the Government if they did not negotiate their demands before the local election announcement.
