Man slits throat and vein in suicide attempt at Police Commissioner's office

Coimbatore : In a shocking incident at the Police Commissioner's office, a 45-year old man attempted suicide by by slitting his throat and a vein in his left hand, on Tuesday. He alleged that the police had failed to take appropriate action in a fraudulent case that he had lodged.

Mohanraj (48), a resident of Kempatti Colony in Coimbatore runs a confectionary business at D K market on Raja treet. As per reports, his relative Ramkumar had mortgaged his property papers and obtained a loan of Rs. 30 lakhs from Tamilnad Mercantile Bank. 

Mohanraj alleged that Ramkumar had said that he would avail only a loan of Rs. 5 lakhs on the property papers, but instead had obtained a loan of Rs. 30 lakhs. On knowing this information, Mohanraj approached the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Coimbatore City Police with a complaint to take action against his relative who had reportedly cheated him. But Mohanraj alleged that the police had not taken any action till date on the complaint lodged by him.

A distraught Mohanraj visited the CCB office in the city and urged the police to take action. However, it was reported that the police did not reassure him of any action and depressed over their indifference to his plight, the man slit his throat and vein at the CCB office premises. The Race Course police rushed him to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for treatment and after his condition was stable, Mohanraj was sent home.
