Tirupur: In a shocking allegation, the relatives of a pregnant woman have urged action on the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Tirupur for administering glucose infested with worms.

Jegan (28) from Odisha lives with his wife Devi (24) in Old Ramakrishnapuram area in Tirupur. Today morning, Jegan took his three-months pregnant wife to a PHC in New Ramakrishnapuram in Tirupur.

According to reports, Devi was administered with glucose by the nurses. Shockingly, Jegan has found some worms and cotton-like substances floating in the glucose and immediately alerted the nurses. Due to language issues, he was neither able to communicate the issue nor understand the response given by the nurses. Hence, he has reported the issue to Joseph, the owner of the restaurant he has been working.

When Joseph inquired with the doctors at work there, they allegedly did not respond well, he said. Joseph further alleges that people from economically backward people were treated with negligence by the staff at the primary health care centre.

Following the complaint, the glucose drips were stopped. Upon information, the City Health Officer inspected the primary health care centre and spoke to the doctor and nurses and assured that appropriate action will be taken.

The presence of worms in the glucose bottle which are administered to almost all sick patients sent shock waves among the patients and their relatives present at the PHC.
