Coimbatore : Three youth on a two-wheeler fell off their vehicle after a policeman hurled a lathi at them to stop them from overspeeding near Pollachi, on Monday evening.
Sub Inspector, Sambantham who was on a vehicle inspection at Sangampalayam under Kottur police limits, spotted a trio speeding on their two-wheeler. In spite of being asked to stop, the youth sped past the Sub Inspector who then reportedly hurled his lathi at the vehicle. The lathi reportedly got stuck in the wheel of the two-wheeler, causing the youth to lose balance and resulting in them being thrown off the vehicle.
The youth were identified as Sardar Ali, Anwar and Afzal from Coimbatore. Following the incident, the residents of the area rescued the injured and rushed them to the Pollachi Government Hospital for treatment. The irate residents then tried to stage a road roko demanding action against the policeman for allegedly causing the accident.
The video footage of the youth falling off their two-wheeler has gone viral on social media.
Meanwhile, the District Superintendent of Police, Sujith Kumar has ordered the suspension of Sub Inspector, Sambantham for causing the accident. DSP Vivekanandhan has been appointed to investigate the incident.
