Coimbatore : The Tamil Nadu government provided a tomato puree making mobile machine worth Rs.40 lakhs to the Velliangiri Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) at a social welfare event held today in Karadimalai district, Coimbatore.
Coimbatore : The Tamil Nadu government provided a tomato puree making mobile machine worth Rs.40 lakhs to the Velliangiri Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) at a social welfare event held today in Karadimalai district, Coimbatore.

The Velliangiri FPO has the highest turnover in Tamil Nadu and has been selected as the best FPO in the state. The state government offered the mobile machine in recognition of the FPO’s performance at minimum subsidized rent, a release said.
Minister for Rural Development S.P. Vellumani and Coimbatore District Collector K. Rajamani were the Chief Guests for the event. The puree machine was received by Chairman of the FPO Kumar and Directors Velumani, Kishore and Kittusamy, the release noted.
Velliangiri FPO, a brainchild of Isha Foundation, was formed in 2013. Registered as Velliangiri Uzhavan Producer Company Ltd (VUPCL), the FPO achieved a record turnover of Rs 7.91 crore during the last financial year, an increase of almost 100 per cent compared to the previous year. The FPO mainly grows vegetables, coconuts and areca nut.
The mobile machinery is expected to benefit farmers at the FPO as well as other farmers in Thondamuthur district. The machine will help tomato farmers in making pureed products like sauce and jam. The machine may also be used to make juices, jams and sauces from other fruits and vegetables which can significantly enhance farmer income, the release said.
