Coimbatore : Zealous NCC students of St. Antony's Higher Secondary School in Puliyakulam and Sankara eye hospital jointly held a free eye check up camp here at the school premises on Sunday.
Coimbatore : Zealous NCC students of St. Antony's Higher Secondary School in Puliyakulam and Sankara eye hospital jointly held a free eye check up camp here at the school premises on Sunday.
Around 250 people belonging to various walks of life mostly under privileged people including children and senior citizens were screened by expert Ophthalmologist and eye care technicians from Sankara eye hospital. Out of which, 20 people were identified with eye problems that requires surgical treatment. Those patients will be operated free of the hospital, said the doctors.
"The significant part of the camp was involving the NSS students prior to the camp in identifying people suffering from eye problems like cataract, refractive issues and other issues. The idea was to engage the students in interacting with people and understanding their issues and motivating them to attend the camp. By doing so, the students get an opportunity to see real time the problems suffered by the people which would instill a sense of responsibility among them", said the organisers.
The eye care technicians from Sankara Eye Hospital suggested corrective measures to children who were identified with eye defects and advised them of corrective measures including using spectacles. And, those patients requiring more intervention were directed for secondary at the hospital.
Earlier, the camp was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Paulraj, Correspondent of St. Antony School and Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Girish Parthan.
G. Albert Alexander, NCC officer of the school and Principal of the school supervised the arrangements of the event.
