Coimbatore: In an attempt to help people with visual impairment, the Salem Division of the Southern Railways is all set to install Braille announcement boards at Coimbatore Junction here.

The addition is done as a part of the initiative by the Southern Railways to make its major railway junctions differently-abled friendly.

The Braille boards are to be fitted with steel letters with information about platforms, help desks, locations of RPF force, drinking water, lift, escalators and toilets.
Officials said that the facility would help the visually impaired people to move around the railway junction with ease without depending on others.
The initiative first began in 2015 at Mysore junction where it was received well. It was then followed in Bengaluru junction as Karnataka hosts the most number of people with visual impairment.
The initiative at Coimbatore railway junction is to be officially inaugurated on Monday, November 4.
